House Renovation in Bellaterra by YLAB Arquitectos
Barcelona-based architectural firm YLAB Arquitectos recently completed the renovation of a home in Bellaterra area of Barcelona, Spain. The homeowners purchased the home because of the land and views, but they knew that when buying it, they would need to eventually undergo a radical renovation.
The architects renovated both the interior and exterior of the home, which is situated on a sloped lot. The original home was two floors with a basement, very poorly designed, with little usable outdoors space. The new design has a unified exterior with added windows, and more living space was created. You gotta love that ipe wood deck and infinity pool.
A series of terraced gardens were created to make the owners feel like they could finally use their outdoor space despite the sloped yard. A terrace on ground level covered with bushhammered Sabbia natural stone partially cantilevers over the deck and pool and a wooden staircase lets you go downstairs for a dip.
The ground floor is features a large living room with a dining area, subtly separated by a big Sabbia natural stone fireplace, and the the kitchen is in the back. The living room opens up toward the back terrace through sliding glass doors that can be fully hidden inside the façade and makes the entire space feel visually united.
The home office is a nice balance of white and wood. The use of warm wooden blinds allows light, air and conversation to flow freely if needed.
